The Importance of Being Earnest! A phrase which is ridiculed to perfection in Oscar Wilde’s most popular comedy. Two bachelors, Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff, having nothing better to do with their days than engage in conversation and nibble on Lady Bracknell’s cucumber sandwiches, invent "very useful" and "invaluable" alter egos, in order to escape the monotony of their lives.
Both using the pseudonym Earnest, they try to win the hearts of Gwendolen and Cecily, both of whom by a stroke of luck, wish to be married to a man named Earnest. As the two young men struggle to keep up with their stories, they wrap themselves up in a tangled mess of their own creation. Wilde, in all his genius, ridicules the sensibilities of Victorian society with brilliance and ease, using some of the most bizarre and best loved characters in British theatre! As the plot thickens, and truths emerge, the vital importance of being earnest is a lesson to be learned through hilarious misadventure!

Tom is a Vienna-based actor, director, writer and translator. Born in London, he moved to Austria after graduating in English Language and Literature from the University of Leeds. He played a wide variety of roles in Open House Theatre’s 2015 and 2016 productions of "A Christmas Carol", played Jack in the company’s 2016 production of "The Importance of Being Earnest", and a most extraordinary ad agency boss in the one-off show "Beginnings" in April 2016. Other stage credits include "porcelainliving" (Silver Tongue Theatre/etcetera theatre, London), Giles in "The Mousetrap", Cliff in "Look Back in Anger" (International Theatre, Vienna), and Victor in "Private Lives" (Art4Charity/Vienna's English Theatre). Directing credits include "Iz" by Oliver Emanuel and "Bella and the Beautiful Knight" by the same author at Theater Drachengasse (both for vienna theatre project).
Tom's training at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro finished in 2010, and he graduated from the University of Wales in 2011, before having a successful run in "A Rotten Little Story" at the Edinburgh Festival. His next role was Jeremy, in the BBC2 film Little Man, before heading to Austria to play Jason in "Disconnected", and later Hyde in "Jekyll's Potion" (Vienna's English Theatre).
Back in the UK Tom's credits include Christopher Morcom in the premiere of "To Kill A Machine", Ensemble in a Welsh language production of "Miss Julie" and Prince Charming in "Cinderella". Tom's has also played several Shakespearian roles, including Cassio in Othello (Swansea Grand Theatre), Petruchio in Taming of the Shrew (Tour) and Duke of Clarence/Lord Rivers/Lady Anne/Catesby in an all male Richard III (UK Tour). He has previously appeared in Open House Theatre's production of "The Picture of Dorian Gray".
Tom is Open House's Social Media Representative, as well as a company's ensemble member.
Nicola was born in New York and did her best to retain her bilingual nature despite the family's move to Austria. She was first introduced to the stage at the age of nine, playing in a local children's theatre group. After getting the chance to be on stage for a production in the Landestheater Linz she gave in to the call of the stage and graduated from Vienna's SunriseStudios für Schauspiel, Tanz und Gesang in 2015.
Her debut in the English language saw her as Hattie in "Laundry and Bourbon/Lone Star", other performances include the musical "Nine", Ballet Days Wien and "Ein Schritt Weiter" in Linz.
Christine trained as an actress at La Compagnie Maritime in Montpellier. She holds a BA in English and French and a French Master's Degree in Theatre Studies. Christine was a member of the Youth Ensemble at Theater im e.novum, Lüneburg, for 8 years. Some of her favourite productions were: “Peer Gynt”, “Yvonne die Burgunderprinzessin”, and “Baal”.
Since moving to Vienna in 2013 and joining Open House Theatre, Christine's credits include: Quince in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Margaret in Much Ado about Nothing, as well as Jack in Jack and the Beanstalk, Lily in Lily in Fairytale Land, and Dick in Dick Whittington and his Cat. She also worked behind the scenes as an assistant director for A Christmas Carol, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and An Evening Of(f), and is Open House Theatre's Social Media Assistant.
Anne was born in Klosterneuburg but moved to Sussex, England before her 1st birthday. She started dance classes aged 3, joined the school choir aged 7 and first appeared on stage professionally in the pantomime “Cinderella” (Stevenage, UK) at the age of 15. After stage and ballet training she returned to the continent to perform in pieces as varied as “Jesus Christ Superstar”, “Die Dreigroschenoper” and “Der Freischütz”.
Since returning to Austria she has, among other things, appeared on ORF Television as an actress (“Die Heiße Spur”) and a dancer (“Vorwärts in die Fifties - Die Peter Kraus Show” etc.), played in the ensemble of “Kiss Me Kate” at the Volksoper, danced in the opening of the Wiener Festwochen and sung in the chorus of the Sommerfestspiele in Bad Ischl. As a founding member of The English Lovers, Anne has been performing improvised theatre in Vienna and abroad for around 15 years and has also written and performed numerous comedy sketches for the group. She has been part of the annual charity revue “Musical Mamis” at the Wiener Metropol since the first show in 2005, writing and performing sketches, singing, dancing and improvising. She played Madame Arcati in the benefit production of “Blithe Spirit” directed by Aoife Smyth at Vienna’s Studio Moliere and most recently created the role of Charlotte Andersen in the fully improvised film “Another One Opens”. Earlier this year she played Amanda Wingfield in OHT's production of "The Glass Menagerie".
Robert studied musical theatre at 'Performing Arts Studios Vienna'. He's been working in the performing arts for more than ten years now. After graduating engagements have taken him to the Raimund Theater, Theater der Jugend, Opera Graz, Volkstheater and the off-theatre scene in Vienna, Berlin, Munich, Bolzano and Ljubljana.
Favourite parts have included Charlie Brown in “Charlie Brown”, The Eldest Magician in “Just So”, The Bullfrog in “Honk!”, The Cheshire Cat in “Alice in Wonderland”, Oliver Hardy in “Laurel & Hardy”, Clown in “A Winter's Tale” and Nick Bottom in “A Midsummer Night's Dream”. He's been working as an author and director for the past few years, and credits include "A Christmas Carol", "The Timekeepers", "The Turn of the Screw" and "Hypnosis".
Robert is Open House Theatre's Artistic Director and to keep the balance he's also a freelance programmer under the label „icatcher.at“
Oskar was born in Lower Austria and grew up in a bilingual household. He had his first experience on stage playing God in the children’s musical "Vor Uns die Sintflut" when he was five years old. At school he was involved in various projects on stage as well as behind the camera. In the last few years he has starred as a guitar player and singer in concerts and shows in and around Vienna, including "What’s in a Name" and "Bad Taste Party" at Theater Drachengasse with his sister Sophie Kozeluh. Oskar is currently studying Popular Music at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna, specialising in guitar.
Alan trained at the ‘Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama’; recently renamed ‘Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’. After graduating in 2008 he was granted a yearlong contract with the ‘Dundee Rep Theatre’. His credits there include: Nugget ‘Eqqus’, Ensemble ‘Peer Gynt’, Derek ‘Quelques Fleurs’, Nick ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf’, Beast/Prince ‘Beauty and the Beast’, The Recruiter/Young Soldier/Young Peasant ‘Mother Courage’. Since moving to Vienna he has appeared on stage at the International Theatre as: Various roles ‘A Christmas Carol’, Inspector Goole ‘An Inspector Calls’, Greg ‘Relatively Speaking’, Ensemble ‘Mark Twain’s America’. He has also appeared as Dan ‘Butterflies are free' for ‘Vienna’s English Theatre’, and Jason ‘Ordinary Days’ for ‘Vienna Theatre Project.
Film credits include: Orlando ‘Grimm’s Snow White’, ‘The Asylum’.
Alan is Open House Theatre's General Manager, as well as an author and director.
After a globe-trotting UN career, Linda opted to remain in Vienna. She was delighted to discover a way to fuel her passion for all things theatre, by assisting in a various ways during rehearsals of OHT productions. She previously contributed, on stage and off, to amateur theatre in her native Toronto, and during her UN assignments in Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, New York and Bonn.
She has earlier assisted with Open House Theatre’s four productions of "A Christmas Carol", as well as the company’s "A Midsummer Night’s Dream", "Romeo and Juliet", "An Evening Of(f)...", "Hedda", and "The Importance of Being Earnest".
Jennifer discovered her love for theatre at university and soon realized she could best put her skills to use backstage. She began her professional career as a Stitcher and Wardrobe Assistant at Trinity Repertory Company in Providence, Rhode Island, where she worked on a wide variety of shows including “A Christmas Carol,” “The Mystery of Edwin Drood,” and “Hamlet.” During that time, she was also asked to bring her talents to several shows produced by Brown University. She later worked as a Draper and Stitcher at Signature Theatre in Arlington, Virginia, on productions such as “Dreamgirls,” “Xanadu,” and “God of Carnage.”
Floh was born in Krems an der Donau, the cultural capitol of Lower Austria, and moved to Vienna nine years ago. After finishing his hairdresser apprenticeship in 2008, he went to Munich to get his make-up artist diploma at the private university "!pure idea" in 2009. He was already involved in several photo shoots during his training, one being the famous "Bravo" Photo Love Story.
After returning to his former salon, and becoming salon director, last year marked his first contact with professional theatre, as he was hired as make-up and wig designer for "The White Horse Inn" at the Schönebecker Operettensommer in Germany. Floh's make-up spectrum ranges from weddings to "Lifeball" make-up and he is currently in the process of getting his masters degree from the hairdresser's guild of Austria.
